We are looking for Volunteer Interpreters to support us with a range of different tasks. The role would be suitable for someone who can speak Arabic, Farsi, Urdu and Hindi, Albanian and Kurdish Sorani or Komanji. As a small charity we rely on the work of volunteers and in return can offer valuable experience.

Job Description
  • Providing advocacy and casework on behalf of service users.

  • Accompanying service users to appointments

  • Contacting the Home Office, Migrant Help, housing providers, and other services on behalf of service users by phone, fax and email.

  • Use your language skills to offer valuable support and advice to help people who are settling into a new environment.

  • To support clients seeking advice by facilitating the flow of communication between clients with none/limited English and our advisors.

Person Specification
  • A second language, especially Arabic, Kurdish Sorani, Farsi or Albanian (essential)
  • A good level of written and spoken English
  • Confident at communicating over phone and email
  • Understanding of the barriers facing refugees and asylum seekers in the UK
  • Experience in interpreting and dealing with a vulnerable client group (desirable)
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality (desirable)                                                                                                                                

Please note that, due to the nature of the work involved, this position is restricted to female only applicants. It will also be necessary for you to undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
