Urgent Appeal for Afghan Women and Families in Liverpool

Last week, the RWC team welcomed new women and families who had fled Afghanistan into our community. We urgently need your help to provide our new service users with the support they need.

£10 could provide a phone top up for a newly arrived Afghan woman

Currently, most our new arrivals have no access to cash. They are not able to buy small necessities, or purchase UK sim cards. By donating £10, you can help an Afghan refugee stay connected and access vital services.

£25 could provide a 1:1 information session, with an interpreter, to help an Afghan woman understand her rights and entitlements

Many of our new arrivals had lots of questions for the RWC team, from healthcare queries to whether they would be able to have a bank account in their own name rather than their husband’s. By donating £25, you can help an Afghan refugee understand her rights and navigate her new situation in the UK.

£50 could provide ten public transport tickets for newly arrived Afghan women

Without having any cash to travel, many new arrivals cannot go beyond their initial accommodation centres, leaving them isolated and distressed. By donating £50, you can allow ten Afghan refugees to explore their new city, combat loneliness, and access vital services.

£100 could provide a full month's worth of one-to-one mental health support for an Afghan woman recovering from trauma

Many of us have seen shocking images from Afghanistan over the past weeks and months. Women have been forced to flee their homes or face violence and abuse, and many are struggling with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. By donating £100, you can provide emotional support for a whole month for an Afghan refugee recovering from trauma.

Please note that we are currently unable to accept donations of physical items of clothes, toiletries, or other goods. The best way for you to support Afghan refugees in your community is by giving a cash donation, so that we can provide our service users with the best support we can. All money donated will go straight to Refugee Women Connect to help provide practical and mental health support from women refugees and asylum seekers around Merseyside and the North West. Your donation may go towards something not listed above, depending on where the greatest need is in the community.
