At Refugee Women Connect, we're so proud to work with so many amazing, inspiring women from all over the world, and every week of the year our team works tirelessly to provide essential support and services to women seeking sanctuary in the UK.
For International Women's Day Week, we wanted to highlight how our team works to provide equity for all women in our community. Many asylum seeking and refugee women in the UK have overcome extreme hardship and adversity, and continue to face disproportionate barriers to social justice. Each woman we work with is an individual with a different background and different stories to tell. For us, equity means recognising that each person comes from different circumstances, and we strive to provide each asylum seeking woman with the specialised support she needs to build a safe life in the UK.
Here's a snapshot of what we've got coming up!
  • Our Mental Health team are publishing a brand new blog exploring how we can achieve equity in Mental Health services.
  • We'll be holding special creative art activities at our Drop In session and with our Mental Health group - follow us on social media to see the amazing original collaborative pieces we're making this week!

  • Our Experts by Experience group will be making a series of videos exploring the importance of having a safe space for women, and what International Women's Day means to them - check them out on Instagram and TikTok!

  • We're holding special Drop In activities for service users to explore how equity and equality are different, and how we all need different levels of support in order to achieve the same goal.

  • Our brilliant students currently on placement with RWC will be attending the IWD celebrations at our local Pakistani centre and hosting a stall to welcome more women into the RWC community.
  • Our fantastic fundraisers from our Liverpool Community Group are hosting an art exhibition and raffle at the Liverpool Arts Bar to raise urgently needed funds for our services - there will even be a special RWC cocktail with proceeds going to support the charity!

You can help support the work of Refugee Women Connect this week and every other week of the year by donating to our International Women's Day Appeal. We are one of the only women’s organisations specifically supporting refugee women in Merseyside, and the information and advice that we provide for the women is the first step to addressing equity.
Every donation, big or small, can make a huge difference to our community. By giving what you can afford, we can give asylum seeking women what they most urgently need.
Your support makes a tremendous impact, and together we can achieve equity for asylum seeking women.
