Sisters Not Strangers

Refugee Women Connect are proud members of the Sisters Not Strangers coalition. Sisters Not Strangers is a coalition led by refugee and asylum-seeking women to build solidarity for women who have come to the UK to seek safety but have instead been made destitute.

The coalition is made up of eight organisations from across the United Kingdom who are fighting to bring an end to destitution and ensure the safety of all asylum-seeking and refugee women. We attended the National Refugee Women's Conference in February 2020 and continue to campaign to create a safe and fair asylum system. In the summer of 2020, we published the 'Hear Us' research which exposed the hardships experienced by asylum-seeking women in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic and calls for far-reaching reform of the asylum process.

In March 2021, we launched The Sisters Not Strangers Coalition: A manifesto for you and us. To read more about our commitment to an expert-led coalition, feminism for all, wellbeing, action, hope and unity, you can download our manifesto.

The organisations who make up Sisters Not Strangers are as follows...
