Last year Refugee Women Connect was involved in the Threads of Protest: Human Rights in Childbirth crochet exhibition with Dr Gemma McKenzie and King’s College London. Gemma led crochet workshops at our drop-in, teaching women how to crochet granny squares. Gemma also worked with one of our service users, Mezkin, through regular sessions Mezkin shared her experience of giving birth to her daughter and the trauma she experienced. The incredibly talented artist @madeleinefamurewa created the amigrumi crochet piece ‘The child screams in her mother’s lap’ to depict Mezkin’s experience.

Threads of protest has already been exhibited in Southport but today it will be launching at the

Science Gallery, 31 St Thomas St, London SE1 9RL. If you're nearby, please go and visit!
